The Klan
There were three existences or times of the klan and the 2nd klan was the klan during the 1920's. Between 1920 and 1925 the klan peaked in members having 6 million members. The second Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1915 by William J Simmons at Stone Mountain. The reason for its large growth was anti-immigrant, anti-catholic, and prohibitionists. The Klan then declined to around 30,000 members by 1930 because of criminal behavior by leaders and internal devisions. Most of the founders were from Atlanta and were called the Knights of Mary Phagan.
