The New Negro Movement
The Harlem Renaissance was also known as the new negro movement. It got this name after a 1925 anthology by Alain Locke. Not only African-Americans in Harlem were affected by the Harlem Renaissance, but African and Caribbean colonies living in Paris were influenced. The reason Harlem was the place for the literary movement was because Harlem was the destination for migrants all around the world. New developments began, like the development of stately houses, grand avenues, and world class amenities like the Polo Grounds or the Harlem Opera House. Harlem was an explosion in culture.
